Compulsory Attendance
A student and parent will be required to comply with compulsory attendance law. Attendance intervention will be required if a student has 3 or more unexcused absences in a 4 week period (all day or parts of the day). The school will refer the case to the District Attorney’s office if a student is absent without an excuse in any class 10 or more times in six months (all day or parts of days).
Texas Education code 25.085 Compulsory Attendance Law states:
(a) Unless specifically exempted by Section 25.086 of this code or under other laws or unless a child is at least 19 years of age and has been issued a high school equivalency certificate (diploma or GED certificate), every child in the state who is as much as six years of age, or who has not reached the child’s 19th birthday shall be required to attend public school in the district of his residence, or in some other district to which he may be transferred as provided or authorized by law, a minimum of 180 days of the regular school term of the district in which the child resides or to which he has been transferred.
(b) On enrollment in pre-kindergarten, a child shall attend school.
