The Wildcats played in their first tournament of the season at Pine Tree this weekend and walked away champions.
Thursday the Wildcats opened the tournament with a 6-2 victory over the Lindale Eagles. Ismael Gonzales and Reece Garcia each scored two goals, Rolando Gallegos and Juan Flores netted the other two. Assists were collected by Garcia, Tony Sanchez (two), Colt James, Diego Oliva and Gonzales.
Friday the ‘Cats faced the Terrell Tigers and the Paris Wildcats. The Wildcats put away Terrell, 3-0. Tony Sanchez, Mario Escalante and Ismael Gonzales provided the scoring on assists from Reece Garcia and Rolando Gallegos. Chris Vigil got his first clean sheet of the season.
In the Paris game, Tony Sanchez’s penalty kick conversion was the only scoring in the 1-0 victory. Chris Vigil earned his second clean sheet.
In Saturday’s finale, the Wildcats faced the Athens Hornets. The game quickly turned ugly with the ‘Cats scoring 5 goals in the first 15 minutes of the game on their way to a 10-0 win. Rolando Gallegos led the scoring with four goals, Tony Sanchez had three, Reece Garcia two and Matthew Wortham one. Assists were gathered by Ismael Gonzales with three, Gallegos and Dylan Jones with two, Cash Hernandez and Cesar Salas with one. Vigil picked up his third straight clean sheet.
Vigil earned the Golden Glove Award for best keeper of the tournament with only two goals allowed, three clean sheets and 8 saves.
Mario Escalante, Ricoh Avila, Diego Oliva, Tony Sanchez and Ismael Gonzales were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The JVA won their pool of the Pine Tree Tournament, defeating Kilgore 1-0, tying Pine Tree 1-1 and defeating Athens 5-0.
The JVB tied Henderson 2-2 and advanced on a 5-4 pk win, then lost their next two games to Waelder 3-0 and Nacogdoches 4-0.
